Biography

Gemma Fox is an award-winning British recording artist and topline songwriter whose career spans more than two decades of UK R&B, Garage, Bassline and underground music — and is now entering an exciting new chapter across the UK and US.

Her breakthrough single "Girlfriend's Story" featuring MC Lyte reached No. 38 on the UK Singles Chart and Top 10 on the Official UK R&B Chart. In 2004, Gemma was selected for the BBC Sound of 2004 (No. 10) and received a MOBO Best UK Newcomer nomination at the ceremony held on 30 September 2004 at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2005, she won the Urban Music Award for Best R&B Act. Her major-label debut album Messy (Polydor / Universal) saw her work with an international line-up including Chucky Thompson, Stargate, Midi Mafia, Johnny Douglas, Dexplicit, MC Lyte, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones and Rodney P.

Gemma has since built an extensive independent catalogue spanning R&B, UK Garage, Bassline and House, contributing to millions of streams and numerous UK club and dance chart appearances. Her contribution as a featured artist has resulted in 3 Gold and 2 Silver BPI certification plaques.

Today, songwriting sits firmly at the centre of Gemma's career. She is part of a US-facing production and songwriting team alongside Eric "88 Fingaz" Parham and Darryl Perry, with current projects including Lewis, A'namii (sister of global star Normani), Atlanta R&B artist Torion Sellers (NBC's The Voice), and acclaimed US songwriter Ursula Yancy.

Gemma is an official topline songwriter for The House & Garage Orchestra. For their first original studio single "Take Care", she wrote the complete vocal melody and lyrics to Shy Cookie's instrumental, recorded the original guide vocal, and personally approached American recording artist Syleena Johnson to perform the finished song. Gemma's backing vocals on the bridge remained on the final recording. Released 4 September 2026 on SINA MUSIC.

Gemma hosts a monthly radio show on Pure FM every last Friday at 10PM, and was featured in the V&A East's Music Is Black project in 2026.

Gemma is the founder of Fox Music Records and Fox Music Consultancy, working across A&R, publishing, catalogue acquisition, artist development, label strategy and music rights. She is a member of PRS, MCPS, PPL, the Ivors Academy and the Music Managers Forum (MMF).
