Gemma Fox signs to Polydor Records / Universal Music Group — one of the few UK garage artists to secure a major label deal at the height of the genre. Early recordings begin circulating on pirate radio and white labels, building a loyal following.

Gemma Fox is selected for the BBC Sound of 2004, placing at No. 10 in the annual emerging-artist list — an important early recognition of her potential as a British recording artist. Debut single "Girlfriend's Story" featuring MC Lyte reaches No. 38 on the UK Singles Chart and Top 10 on the Official UK R&B Chart. Gemma receives a MOBO Award nomination for Best UK Newcomer — the ceremony takes place on 30 September 2004 at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

Debut album Messy released on Polydor Records, featuring collaborations with Chucky Thompson, Stargate, Midi Mafia, Johnny Douglas, Dexplicit, MC Lyte, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones and Rodney P.

Wins Best R&B Act at the Urban Music Awards, cementing Gemma Fox's place at the forefront of UK urban music.

Gemma Fox moves into the emerging bassline scene, becoming one of its defining voices. Fox Ents is founded the same year, laying the groundwork for her independent empire.

The music press and peers begin calling Gemma Fox the Queen of Bassline. The title reflects her central role in developing and popularising the genre across the UK.

Fox Music Records launches as the evolution of Fox Ents. Gemma takes full creative and commercial control of her output — a home for emerging UK urban talent and a vehicle for her production and A&R work.

Launches Fox Music Consultancy, offering artist development, A&R guidance, and industry mentoring. Gemma begins sharing two decades of hard-won knowledge with the next generation.

Gemma joins forces with US producer Eric "88 Fingaz" Parham (Erykah Badu, Jennifer Hudson, T-Boz of TLC) and industry veteran Darryl Perry (Bobby Brown, New Edition, Boyz II Men, Jagged Edge), building a transatlantic pipeline connecting UK songwriting with contemporary American R&B.

Featured in the V&A East's Music Is Black project in 2026, recognising Gemma's contribution to the cultural history of Black British music. Gemma is also cited in the V&A's own editorial on backing singers (vam.ac.uk/articles/backing-singers).

Gemma wrote the complete vocal melody and lyrics to Shy Cookie's instrumental for The House & Garage Orchestra's first original studio single. She recorded the original guide vocal, performed backing vocals on the bridge, and personally approached Syleena Johnson's team with the demo. Released 4 September 2026 on SINA MUSIC, the single received international press coverage across the UK, US, Japan and Belgium. Shy Cookie publicly stated: "Gemma Fox deserves the credit for making that connection happen."

In Q3 2026, Gemma closes several catalogue acquisitions within the US. She also launches her monthly radio show on Pure FM, broadcasting every last Friday at 10PM, going back-to-back with special guest DJs and artists from the UK and around the world.

Active writing projects include a cut on Lewis's forthcoming album (planned as the second single), artist development with A'namii (sister of Normani), collaborations with Atlanta R&B artist Torion Sellers (NBC's The Voice, Team Michael Bublé), and acclaimed US songwriter Ursula Yancy (Rihanna's "Skin," Jennifer Lopez's "Troubeaux").
